- Activate the Yeast:
- In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the sugar in the warm water.
- Sprinkle the yeast over the water and let it sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- Prepare the Dough:
- Add the melted butter, salt, and beaten egg to the yeast mixture. Stir to combine.
- Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Continue adding flour until the dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl and is no longer sticky.
- Knead the Dough:
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
- Knead for about 8-10 minutes, until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- First Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, turning it once to grease the top.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until doubled in size.
- Shape the Rolls:
- Punch down the risen dough to release the air.
- Divide the dough into 12-15 equal pieces and shape each piece into a ball.
- Place the rolls on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet, spacing them a bit apart.
- Second Rise:
- Cover the rolls with a clean kitchen towel and let them rise again for about 30-45 minutes, or until puffy.
- Bake:
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.
- Remove from the oven and brush the tops with melted butter while they are still hot.
- Serve:
- Allow the rolls to cool slightly before serving.
- Enjoy them warm, with butter, or as a side to your favorite meal.
